Clear terms for a private tool.

These terms govern Sober version 2.0 and later and the optional Sober Pro subscription. By downloading or using Sober, you agree to these terms and Apple’s applicable App Store terms.

1. The service

Sober is a HaleHearth journaling and educational support app for adults who want to record self-defined quit journeys and use practical urge tools. It stores the recovery record locally, creates no new Sober account, and provides no cloud sync. A one-time Sign in with Apple confirmation may appear only when an updated 1.x user asks to erase a retained legacy identity.

2. Not medical or emergency care

Sober is not medical advice, treatment, diagnosis, detox management, crisis intervention, or a medical device. It does not predict relapse, monitor you, contact a clinician or emergency service, or tell you whether or how to stop medication or substance use.

Always use qualified professional judgment for health decisions. Sudden withdrawal from heavy alcohol use or benzodiazepines can be dangerous. Seek qualified medical care. If you may be in immediate danger, call local emergency services; do not rely on Sober.

3. Limited licence and responsible use

Subject to these terms and Apple’s standard end-user licence terms, you receive a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Sober on supported Apple devices you own or control. You may not reverse engineer, redistribute, resell, interfere with, or use the app unlawfully, except where applicable law expressly permits otherwise.

4. Local data and your backups

Sober does not keep a server copy of your journal. You are responsible for user-controlled exports you want to preserve. Using Delete all Sober data permanently removes the app-owned local data after any detected 1.x identity has received a verified erasure confirmation; failed legacy confirmation leaves all data in place. Deleting the app also normally removes its container but may bypass the in-app legacy-erasure flow. HaleHearth cannot recover local data. Exported files may contain sensitive information; review and redact them before sharing.

5. Sober Pro subscriptions

Sober’s core journey ledger, basic urge exercise, slips, recovery reminders, raw history, safety information, privacy controls, purchase restoration, local deletion, basic export, and the 7-day comparison remain available without Pro. Sober Pro adds 30 and 90-day comparisons plus a redaction-first PDF support brief.

  • Monthly: $2.99 USD per month in the United States.
  • Annual: $19.99 USD per year in the United States.

Prices in other storefronts, currency conversion, and taxes may vary. The price displayed on Apple’s purchase sheet when you confirm the transaction is the binding price.

Introductory offers

No introductory offer is promised by these terms. If Apple’s purchase sheet displays an eligible introductory offer before you confirm, the duration, renewal price, and eligibility shown by Apple apply.

Renewal, cancellation, and refunds

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple charges renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in Apple Account subscription settings. Deleting Sober does not cancel a subscription. Apple handles billing and refund requests under its policies.

Manage billing with Apple Support.

6. Availability and changes

We may maintain, improve, remove, or replace features to protect safety, privacy, reliability, or legal compliance. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every device or operating-system version. Material changes to subscription benefits will not remove access already required by applicable law or Apple policy.

7. Disclaimers and liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sober is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties beyond those that cannot legally be excluded. Recovery outcomes depend on many factors; no outcome, abstinence, or urge duration is promised. HaleHearth is not responsible for decisions made in reliance on Sober as a substitute for professional or emergency care.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies a consumer guarantee, statutory right, or liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude. Where liability may lawfully be limited, it is limited to the amount you paid for Sober in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, without excluding consumer rights that apply in your place of residence. Courts with lawful jurisdiction may hear disputes.
